Captain’s Dinner (Kapiteinsdiner) is a quintessential Dutch meal in which baby potatoes, vegetables, bacon bits, and a fresh mustard-piccalilli sauce come together in a hearty and flavorful dish. The combination of salty bacon bits, sweet and sour Amsterdam onions, and creamy sauce creates a dish reminiscent of traditional Dutch cuisine.
Fun fact: Field peas (kapucijners) are also known as “grey peas” and were once popular with sailors due to their long shelf life. This made them a beloved ingredient in various regional Dutch dishes.

Ingredients: baby potatoes, bacon bits, onion, leek, savory, field peas, green peas, Amsterdam onions, piccalilli, crème fraîche, mustard, oil, salt, and pepper.

Heating instructions
Microwave: Remove the lid and cover (e.g., with a microwave-safe cover). Heat for 2–3 minutes at 800W. Stir or shake and heat for another 30–60 seconds if necessary.
Pan: Warm gently in a pan with a small dash of oil or butter until the desired temperature is reached.
Oven: Place in an oven dish at 150°C for 15–30 minutes (covering prevents drying out).
Tip: Let the meal rest for 1 minute after heating; this allows the flavors to come into their own.
